Tarang is an Imperial gas giant located in the Verydian's Reach system of the Macharian Sector. It is exploited for its rare and valuable gases, which are processed on the orbital station Tharsis-Song.[1]
History
Tarang was first surveyed by the Administratum, whose adepts were astonished by the gas giant’s highly unusual collection of rare elements. Their findings were considered so vital that they petitioned the Adeptus Mechanicus for assistance in large-scale exploitation. This partnership created the Rufous-Pact Combine, a joint venture between the Administratum and the Mechanicus.[1]
Mining operations were established using servitor-piloted scoop-ships that dipped into Tarang’s atmosphere on eccentric orbits, carrying harvested gases to offloading stations. These were refined and stored aboard Tharsis-Song, a massive orbital platform.[1]
When the Noctis Aeterna struck, Imperial supply fleets ceased arriving. Cargo pods overflowed, storage was exhausted, and the inhabitants of Tharsis-Song resorted to creating gardens in unused sections of the station to survive. Messages sent through the Warp were faint, fragmented by psychic nightmares. No response has yet been received, though suspicions have arisen that more sinister forces are at play.[1]
Tharsis-Song
Tharsis-Song is a vast orbital refinery and storage station orbiting Tarang. It houses augmented workers, Administratum officials, and Mechanicus overseers who together manage the harvesting and refinement of Tarang’s gases.[1]
The station produces countless gas types, but the most valuable include:
- Echantalit – prized as a universal fertiliser.[1]
- Astarylan – a rare compound vital in the manufacture of bolt rounds for the Verydian Hawks Chapter.[1]
The station is vital to the Macharian Sector’s economy and military supply, yet isolation and paranoia during the Blackness have strained its ruling alliance.[1]
Notable Figures
- Administratum Ordinate August Valen – Initially delighted to be posted to Tharsis-Song, Valen now lives in constant suspicion. Convinced that Artisan Tech-Priest Ingottus Phi is stockpiling resources and hiding a secret Warp-route, Valen fears that the Mechanicus will attempt to seize the station.[1]
- Adeptus Mechanicus Artisan Ingottus Phi – Fascinated by both Tarang and Tharsis-Song, Phi regards the station as a pinnacle of Omnissian design. However, their increasing command of servitor-forces and readiness to arm them has heightened Valen’s paranoia. Phi has begun to quietly plan for the Mechanicus to assert full control of the station.[1]
- Captain Ammanus Tarx – A commander of the Verydian Hawks Space Marines, Tarx is among those who suspect darker influences at work during the isolation of Tarang. His concerns extend beyond mere logistical delays to the possibility of a greater xenos or Warp-related threat.[1]
