Overview

Elite Scions who exclusively go into battle wearing Grav-Chutes are called Tempestus Aquilons and are armed primarily with Hot-Shot Lasguns as well as Melta Carbines and Plasma Carbines. They are drawn from Schola Progenium recruits that display self-sufficiency, intuition, raw aggression, free thought, and improvisation.[2][3]
While all Tempestus Scions are trained in grav-chute insertion, Aquilons differ in that they are entirely designed around such operations. For example, their hot-shot las carbines take magazines so they can fire during a drop without getting tangled up in cables. Once they land, they can swap to their back-mounted powerpacks.[3] Due to preferring to drop right into the middle of enemy lines, the Aquilons are required to have intense close-quarters training and can have specialists who are equipped with various short range weapons, like melta carbines and plasma carbines. Their teams are led by Tempestors and also include the specialist ranks of Gunfighter, Gunner, Marksman, Precursor and Grenadier. Aquilon squadrons can be deployed with Grav-Chute equipped Servo-Sentries as well.[2]
Forces
- Tempestor: Squad leaders with keen tactical and strategic ability.[1a] Typically equipped with either a Power Sword or Chainsword and a Bolt Pistol, Hot-Shot Laspistol, or Hot-Shot Lascarbine.[1b]
- Grenadier: Explosive specialists.[1a] Equipped with a Hot-Shot Laspistol and Melta Bombs.[1b]
- Gunfighter: Aggressive troops who specialize in accuracy and close-range firepower.[1a] Equipped with twin Hot-Shot Laspistols.[1b]
- Gunner: Wield heavier weapons such as Melta Carbines and Plasma Carbines.[1a]
- Marksman: Snipers equipped with a Hot-Shot Long-Las
- Precursor: Swift and stealthy troops who specialize in dropping in first in order to knock out or distract the most dangerous enemy ground defenses.[1a] Equipped with a dagger and Hot-Shot Laspistol.[1b]
- Trooper: Standard troops equipped with Hot-Shot Lascarbines.[1a]
