Thaumaturgy
From Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum
Thaumaturgy is a Psychic Discipline, dedicated to sealing breaches of the Warp in Realspace.[1]
Description
Those who practice it are known as Thaumaturges and they seek to contain the worst excesses of the Warp's manifestations, while also restoring the damage it causes. They can also banish Daemons back to the Warp and also stop a person from dying. However using these abilities come at a cost and Thaumaturges will only do so, when they have no other option. In the Imperium, Thaumaturgy is called the scholar's art and those who practice the Psychic Discipline are considered to be the most knowledgeable of all the psyker classes. However this is due to the obsession, that Thaumaturges have with obtaining it.[1]
Abilities
- Resurrection: Allows Thaumaturges to stop someone from dying, but only if the ability is used at the very point of death. Resurrection is considered to be the ultimate art of Thaumaturgy, but one that its practitioners are loath to use, due the risks involved with doing so. Because of this, the ability is only used on warriors who are deemed to be worthy of saving.[1]
- Tranquillity: Allows Thaumaturges to seal Warp breaches created by enemy Psykers. This in turn weakens their foes' psychic powers and can mean the difference between victory and defeat.[1]
