Tlaloc was an Agri World founded in the Thirty-Sixth Millennium in the Orpheus Sector.[1a]
Overview
Tlaloc was a verdant, fen-covered world that was selected as a prime candidate for colonisation in M36. The initial colonisation fleet, comprising of sixteen million souls, went missing in 817.M36. A smaller colonisation fleet would then settle the world in 847.M36.[1a]
In 889.M38 ominous distorted distress signals were received from the planet. A squadron from Battlefleet Orpheus was dispatched to the planet to investigate. They found a horrific scene upon arrival: blood and burning ruins everywhere. Curiously, no bodies were found.[1b] This led Inquisitor Kussan of the Ordo Xenos to pronounce this as the work of Eldar Kabalite Corsairs, though the Orphean Admiralty did not share this view. The sector's Lord Commander would subject Tlaloc to a permanent Quarantine.[1c]
It wasn't until 3.716.991.M41 that the reality of what had happened became apparent. A scimitar shaped arc line of darkness suddenly spread from Tlaloc to Epirus, blocking all communications as well as consuming space faring vessels.[1d] Only after the fall of the Orphean Sector did it become apparent that the destruction on Tlaloc was caused by the Necrons.[1e]
Trivia
- Tlaloc is possibly named after the ancient Nahuatl diety Tláloc. Tlaloc is an agri-world and those who practised the Nahuatl religion, such as the Aztec and Maya, would perform sacrifices to Tláloc to ensure good harvests.
Notes
- Note 1: Tlaloc's Sub-sector is not explicitly stated. The map on pages 30 and 31 of Imperial Armour Volume Twelve - The Fall of Orpheus show the world equidistant between the Deluvian Sub-sector and the Drucillan Sub-sector.
