Type Five Icarus-pattern Personal Descent Unit
The Type Five Icarus-pattern Personal Descent Unit is a type of descent unit used by regiments of the Astra Militarum like the Phantine Skyborne, smaller and lighter than an Astartes Jump-pack.[1]
Description
Produced on the Forge World of Lucius, the Type Five controls its altitude by usage of dual M12 gravity nullers that look like fist-sized metal balls and a variable-vent compressor. The altitude is adjustable by a side mounted touch control unit. The Type Five itself is a heavy metal backpack weighing about sixty kilograms dormant, but its grav-units nullify the weight when in operation.[1]
By adjustment of the weight-reduction, the operator can rise from the ground, arrest a fall or even hover. A compressor fan allows for course correction, even accounting for crosswinds. All actions are controlled by the touch control unit that functions like a joystick.[1]
The Type Five is considered very reliable, virtually never failing.[1]
