Hailing from the Forge World Konor, he was a strong believer of the synthesis of humans and machines as the true aim of the Mechanicum. The Server of Instrumentation for the Calth weapons grid, he oversaw the system in 007.M31, and as such attempted to erase the scrapcode infecting the network.[1b]

When the Word Bearers launched their opening moves against the Ultramarines, Hesst was mortally wounded by the datashock created by the Campanile's streak through the shipyards.[1c] Dying, he demanded of Magos Meer Edv Tawren that she take over to restore the noosphere and grid, even if disconnection should kill him.[1c] Tawren's hesitation did not allow for cybersurgical specialists to unplug him safely, as Master of Skitarii Arook Serotid had to slice through the connection to evacuate when the grand cruiser Antrodamicus plunged towards them.[1d]

Before his death, however, Hesst had managed to configure a killcode to counter the scrapcode, hiding it in an isolated cogitator close to Numinus Starport and Lanshear landing grounds.[1e] Tawren, with whom Hesst had a close relationship[1f], was escorted to the location by loyalist troops and used the killcode to purge the network, restoring control over the grid and turning the tide of the Battle of Calth.[1g]
