The Unbound Flame is one of the Nine Artifacts of Vulkan. This stasis-capsule served as the coffin for Vulkan during his apparent death on Macragge during the Horus Heresy. Later, the Unbound Flame was brought by Artellus Numeon to Mount Deathfire on Nocturne, where the Salamanders Captain hoped to resurrect his Primarch. Before Numeon sacrificed himself in the fires of Mt. Deathfire to restore Vulkan he put his armour and weapons into the casket.^[1]

After the formation of the Great Rift, Vulkan He'Stan believed the Unbound Flame to be on the planet Zero.^[2] However, they instead became embroiled in a battle against the Alpha Legion and no evidence of the artefact was discovered.^[3]
