Ur was a monolithic Terran city that was meant to be built by and for the faithful of the Catheric religion[1c] during the Great Crusade.[1b]

History

The entire process of building the city was called the Ur Project and it was overseen by an individual known as the Architect , who had chosen where Ur was to be built. The mass of Catheric worshipers who aided in constructing the city normally lived in numerous communes close to Ur, but lived for months at a time in sprawling work camps near its building site. Meanwhile, their children and any orphans found by the Architect's surveyor troops remained in the communes, which were led by Rectors. These Rectors not only saw to the children's safety but also to their education and raised them in the Catheric religion. Though these children did not work directly in the construction of Ur, they shipped fruit and vegetables they grew to the work camps. The children also mended the workers' clothes and placed messages of encouragement and salvation within them, before shipping the clothes back to the work camps as well.[1a] These work camps, though, would celebrate the Catheric holidays of Cathermas, Radmastide and the Divine Architect, as well as the observances of the builderlodges. For the worshipers of Ur, however, these occasions were excuses for spirited fairs and jubilees, which the children joined in on as well. As they all celebrated together, large members of Ur would challenge other worshipers to sparring bouts, for the crowd's entertainment, along with coins and beer.[1c]

The lives of all those involved in the Ur Project were fraught with danger, though. This was not only from rad clouds and pollution fogs, but also numerous dangerous animals. These included wolves, wild dogs, bears, Meat-birds, Eater-pigs, wild swine, snakes and large red scorpions. Another dangerous threat was their fellow Humans, which led to Ur's downfall over one hundred[1a] and forty years[1b] into the Great Crusade.[1a] Before the city could be completed, attackers suddenly struck and destroyed the entire Ur Project, including the communes that had supported it.[1c]
