Utochre is the eighth of the twenty eight moons orbiting the planet Cyto in the Helican Subsector, known for its ore mining and gemstone markets.[1a]

Description

Utochre is a frozen, watery satellite with an atmosphere of thick cloud. Its landmasses are thick with mineral wealth, theorized to have resulted from a collision with another moon in the ancient past. Its primary industry is therefore the mining of its rich ores; however, it has a major secondary industry in the lapidary crafts.[1a] Nobles and otherwise wealthy individuals from all over the Scarus Sector have travelled to Cyto since 840.M39,[1b] to be ferried to Utochre to make use of the prestigious lapidary halls where fine jewellery and gemstones are made and sold.[1a]

Wych House

The lapidary halls served a secret secondary purpose, however. As well as their craft and merchant services, they also served to facilitate access to a hidden place known only as the Wych House.[1c]

The Wych House was a submersed building that clung to the undersea shelf of ice out in the deepest part of Utochre's great oceans. It was mobile, travelling on legs, and so was never found in the same place, and required submersible vessels to reach, thereby ensuring its continued secrecy.[1d]

The purpose of the Wych House was to help people make important decisions.[1e] It did this through the use of what appeared to be a plain wooden door. This door, however, was anything but plain: it was a portal to other times and worlds, allowing possibly unlimited travel to anywhere in time and space.[1f] The House would guide those who entered the door to a specific time and place or places that would allow them to resolve the predicament that they needed help deciding on.[1e]

History

In 404.M41, the rogue Inquisitor Gideon Ravenor and his entourage came to Utochre in the hopes of making use of the Wych House to track down his nemesis, Zygmunt Molotch. Molotch had anticipated him making this attempt, however, and laid a trap. Molotch manipulated the House's door to send him to Gudrun, where he was currently in hiding. There, Molotch offered to join forces with Ravenor to defeat the daemon prince Slyte, but if Ravenor refused, he would have the door trap him on a world infested with heretofore unknown xenos while mercenaries hidden within the Wych House would capture any remaining members of his entourage.[1g]

Ravenor refused Molotch's offer and was therefore trapped.[1h] However, unknown to all but the staff of the House, Ravenor had brought Slyte with him through the door, possessing one of his retinue. The daemon used his power to force open the door, which allowed the battered group to escape, but also allowed many of the xenos through into the House.[1i] The ensuing damage caused broke the House beyond repair. Its feet lost their grip on the subsurface ice and it fell into the ocean, where it was crushed by the deep sea pressure.[1j]
