Vardesh Kraiya was the Chief Apothecary of the Sons of Horus Legion, during the Horus Heresy.[1a]

History

He was part of the planning the Sons of Horus were conducting to reshape the Imperium, once they defeated the Emperor in the Siege of Terra. A key part of this, was the creation of a New Traitor Legion the Sons of Horus could unleash upon the Galaxy, which would be infused by the power of Chaos. They would need the equipment and aid of Luna's Selenar gene-cults to do so and Kraiya asked Captain Abaddon to oversee the project, once Terra's moon was seized. Abaddon agreed and the Chief Apothecary began overseen the Selenar's work on the new Legion, as Warmaster Horus' forces invaded Terra.[1a]

Kraiya felt proud to do so, as his creations would place him at the forefront of the Imperium's new age. However this dream died, when the Emperor emerged victorious after slaying Warmaster Horus, during Siege of Terra. Horus' death not only signaled the Traitors' defeat and their quick retreat from Terra, but also caused the Chaos Gods' powers to withdrew from the galaxy. The loss of the power of Chaos put an end to Kraiya's warp infused Legion and any chance of escaping Luna was lost, when the Ultramarines and numerous other Imperial warships soon arrived at Terra. But Kraiya did not mourn this fact and instead vowed to fight on for Captain Abaddon, the memory of Warmaster Horus and for those who had died attempting to end the Emperor's rule. As he rallied the Traitor forces that remained trapped on Luna, Kraiya vowed to make the Imperium pay a heavy cost to reclaim the moon.[1a]

Kraiya was the overall Traitor commander during the subsequent Retaking of Luna, alongside his Lieutenant Ezelas Kul and Selenar matriarch Heliosa-78.[1b] He personally commanded the defense of the Somnus Citadel and engaged Ultramarines Chief Librarian Titus Prayto in a duel. However he was mortally wounded during the battle, but before his death he gloated that the loyal Astartes had doomed themselves despite their victory and that the High Lords would discard them as soon as the war was over.[1c]
