Vertigus II was once an Imperial Mining World of the Nephilim Sector, until the creation of the Great Rift. After the giant Warp Storm was created, the Necrons attacked the region of the Sector, that Vertigus II was located in. The Xenos soon caused the world's population to disappear and Vertigus II became key to the Necrons' sinister plans for the region - now known as the Pariah Nexus.[1]
History
During the Indomitus Crusade, an Imperial Battlegroup under Groupmaster Marran was deployed to investigate the silence of Vertigus II, as they had missed three Tithe cycles.[3] Task Force III dispatched a force led by Ultramarines Veterans but also containing other Space Marine Chapters and Sisters of Battle to the planet surface, but found nothing but uneasy silence. Despite signs of a struggle, it seemed the populace had vanished instantaneously, with activated Ordinators sitting idle and rotten, half-eaten rations lying around.[2][3]
As the Imperial forces investigated further, Necrons appeared suddenly and simultaneously across the planet to attack them, beginning the battle for Vertigus II.[3]
Geography
As a Mining World, Vertigus II contains many underground mineral resources. Towns known as Mining Communes cover the surface, with a capital city named M’tallonis.
Due to the Necron influence, Vertigus II is now covered in massive Blackstone Obelisks.[3]
Trivia
- Vertigus II was used by Games Workshop as an introduction and backdrop for the main Ultramarines vs Szarekhan Dynasty Necrons conflict for the release of 9th Edition.
