Vorxec Calvarius
Vorxec Calvarius is a Nurgle Chaos Lord, who was once a Chaplain of the Silver Skulls Chapter.[1]
Overview
His downfall began during his second century of service, when Vorxec took part in the campaign to purge the Plague World Horestis. With a demi-Company of his Silver Skulls Battle Brothers under his command, the Chaplain successfully fought across the cursed world's Rot Fields and cleansed the spires of Hive Tortentus. However, Horestis' plagues consumed his forces, and their end came when a Warp-rift opened and the Daemons of Nurgle began pouring onto the world. The Silver Skulls were then overwhelmed by the Daemons and Vorxec soon found himself standing alone against them. Now surrounded on all sides, the Chaplain was about to be attacked by a Great Unclean One, when he contacted the Imperial warships in Horestis' orbit and told them to immediately perform an Exterminatus on the Plague World. They did so and missiles containing the dreaded Life Eater Virus struck Horestis and consumed everything in its path. Once the virus died out, the Imperial warships could observe that Horestis was now a Dead World and departed, as they felt secure nothing had survived. They were wrong, however, as Vorxec still miraculously lived, but was left so heavily wounded by the Exterminatus that he could not move from where he lay. The Chaplain was near death, but somehow survived for 49 days afterwards, sustained by his own formidable will and unknowingly by Nurgle as well.[1]
This would cause Vorxec to eventually be overcome by a glorious revelation, that all life in the galaxy ultimately served the Plaguefather by living and then dying. If it was his sacred duty as a Chaplain to bring about death, then why not do so in the name of the Chaos God, who was responsible for the ultimate death of all? Vorxec then pledged his loyalty to Nurgle and afterwards found that his body was now miraculously healed. As if guided by fate, he then became aware of a renegade reaver vessel that had recently arrived in Horestis' orbit, hoping to salvage what they could from the Dead World. Vorxec then tracked down and killed the reavers' landing party, then returned to their ship, demanding passage from them on pain of death. For a fever burned within his mind to spread Nurgle's virulent gifts and for the next several decades, the former Chaplain wandered the galaxy, causing outbreaks of pestilence. He still continues to do, but now Vorxec leads a plague-ridden Warband of his own and this has led him to become a spiritual leader once more. As Vorxec gives his followers spiritual liturgies of pestilence and catechisms of infection, that stir their zealous hearts to do Nurgle's bidding.[1]
