Vosto Kurnan was a Sons of Horus Captain, who took part in the Horus Heresy.[1a]

History

He led the Sons of Horus' forces, that were assigned to aid the Dark Mechanicum envoy Regulus, gain access to the Salamanders' Wrought beneath a ruined city. It was a vast vault filled with the Loyalist Space Marine Legion's weapons and munitions, which was located on unnamed world in the Boron XIII System. However when they arrived, the Sons of Horus were unable to breach the Vault's doors - until the arrival of a Salamanders' strike force led by Forgefather T'kell. The Forgefather had planned to seal the Artefacts of Vulkan within the Wrought, when he learned that the Sons of Horus and Dark Mechanicum were trying to open it[1a]. T'kell would be infected by a malicious scrap-code, which forced the Salamander to open the Wrought's doors.[1b]

However the Sons of Horus and Dark Mechanicum's victory was quickly brought to an end, by the arrival of an Iron Hands strike force, aboard a Battle Barge, led by the Iron Father Kastigan Ulok. The Iron Father had been hunting for Regulus[1c] and slaughtered Kurnan's forces in order to reach the envoy. As his life was now at risk, Regulus secretly signaled the Traitor Legion's Son of Victory Sword Class Frigate to extract him to safety. As it neared the world, most of the remaining Sons of Horus escaped into the plains surrounding the city. Kurnan was not among them, though, as now facing the ignominy of defeat, he preferred to die in battle rather than withdrawal from the city. However this was not to be, as Regulus demanded that Kurnan escort him safely to an extraction point across the city. As the envoy to his Primarch, Horus, the Captain knew he could not deny Regulus' demands and so relented in doing so. They were then transported to the Strike Frigate, which led Kurnan to became enraged after their arrival, as the Son of Victory had a garrison of Legionaries at its disposal. These fresh troops could have aided the Captain's own forces, as they fought the Iron Hands, but Regulus refuted this. He stated the Son of Victory had been emergency contingency plan and its garrison was charged with only ensuring the envoy's safety.[1d]

This was now in doubt in Kurnan's mind, as the Iron Hands Battle Barge was pursuing the fleeing, Son of Victory and they were aided by T'kell's Salamanders strike force. Regulus agreed with this and asked the Captain to defend him, as he sought to purge the knowledge he had gained from his data-core before the Iron Hands could claim it. When Kurnan then pulled his power sword from its scabbard and stated he could just kill Regulus instead, the envoy replied that the Captain was too honourable to do that. This was proven correct, when Kurnan angrily put his sword away and Regulus told the Captain to find a worthy death, before entering a nearby sanctum to start purging his data-core[1d]. Kurnan did as he was ordered and gathered 9 other Sons of Horus to protect the entrance to Regulus' sanctum, as the Iron Hands and Salamanders boarded the Son of Victory. As they waited for the Loyalists, the Captain listened as the Sword Class Frigate' defenses were overwhelmed and its bridge was taken. The door to the chamber Kurnan was in began to open soon afterwards[1e] and Gor'og Krask and his Terminator Salamanders entered to face the Traitors[1f]. Seeing the foes facing him put a smile on Kurnan's face and the Captain knew he would have a worthy death[1e]. A fierce battle then followed between the two forces, which ended with Kurnan and the other Sons of Horus dying at the Salamanders' hands. Regulus would be killed by the Loyalists soon afterwards.[1f]
