Below is an example article laid out in the general article structure, for reference when creating articles to ensure consistent order and naming of headings and sections.
Information explaining how this page works, such as this, will be written inside Infoboxes, these would obviously not appear in a proper article.
|
 |
Articles can cover a wide range of subjects, so the whole general structure page can never be applicable to every article, but every article should follow this same basic structure:
- Abstract and Infobox (not under any header)
- Overview (Only applies if the article is long enough)
- General information sections (Culture/Geography/Role/Recruitment etc.)
Note: Any list of ‘notable’ elements should only contain the 5-10 most important options, any exhaustive listing should be left to a separate article linked at the top of the section.
- Gallery
- Artwork
- Miniatures
- Videos
- Trivia
- Notes
- Conflicting Sources
- See Also
- Related Articles
- Related Products
Ideally shorter, more informative sections come first, then longer sections come after, with administrative sections at the end.

This article contains text passages or images with citation issues. The concerned content is marked with "Citation issue" tags. Please help to improve this article by fixing those issues as described in the corresponding Help article. Do also note that it is absolutely forbidden to add new information or content to these marked passages as long as the pre-existing citation issues have not been completely resolved.
|
 |
Above is a Citation Issue marker, to show this page might have citation issues. These are placed at the top of pages (as well as in the Sources section), so that they're more obvious in order to be fixed.
|
Here should be an Abstract, summarising the article in 1-3 sentences, just enough so that the reader understands if this is the article they wish to read or not. For this page, the abstract would be something like this: The General Article Structure is an article that contains a standard structure for other articles to follow.
 |
Aim to use suitable images to illustrate an article. Avoid words like "now" and "current", use "latest known" or similar instead.
|
Overview
 |
The Overview section contains a summary of the article, including quick background information and notable feats. It should be larger than the abstract, but not contain so much information that the rest of the article is redundant. Additionally, it is unneeded to restate the abstract in the Overview.
|
Since its creation in 123.M41[1], the General article structure has participated in numerous wars, including the Made-up-crusade[2b] and the Scouring of Somewhere[3]. General article structure culture revolves around editing articles, ensuring consistency, and martial combat.[3] The article included notable heroes including Spider-man and the Refrigerator[1] etc. etc.
History/Biography
 |
History describes the events that the article's subject was part of or related to. They should be displayed in chronological order (oldest at the top). Add subheadings for seperate campaigns or actions, to make the page easier to navigate.
If the subject was involved in loads of actions, that have little-to-no information, they can be organised into a timeline under a Timeline subheading.
In articles about Events, Locations, or Groups, this section should remain called History.
In articles about Characters, this section should be called Biography.
|
General article structure was edited many times, including a cataclysmic edit in M38 which resulted in heavy losses for both sides.
When the General article fleet met with Primarch Rogal Dorn, they were gifted with an artifact known as the Example. Ever since, the Example has been honoured and kept safe within the General article structure vaults.
Culture
 |
Large information sections should be included in this area between the Overview and the notable list sections. These are the ‘meat’ of the article.
If any section (especially History sections) becomes too large, it may be a good idea to group parts into sub-headings.
|
The Articles are considered experts at writing, and a strong emphasis is placed on oratory skills as well.
Geography
 |
A planet’s Geography section should focus on natural geography and species-made geography (such as cities), in that order. Any historical changes, e.g. Tyranids converting a planet into a Dead World should be added as well, but ensure that information from both before and after is included.
|
Planet General article structure had a temperate climate, with a diverse landscape of mountains, forests, deserts, and oceans reminiscent of Terra.
The article day was only one-quarter of a Terran standard day. In the past, the day was longer, but the impact of an Ork Space Hulk in M37 caused a dramatic shift in the planet’s rotation speed.
General article structure’s capital city was Example City, and is surrounded by smaller Example Towns.
Wargear
 |
The Wargear section is used for character or troop type sections. It should detail the subject's most common wargear, including weaponry, armour, and other useful equipment (Narthecium for example), as well as wargear equipped only for a short period of time during a specific action.
While datasheets can be used for finding wargear that the subject could be equipped with, this section should not list Wargear Options from a rules point-of-view (e.g. "The subject can be equipped with 2x Storm Bolters or 1x Chainsword").
|
Marneus Calgar wielded the Boltgun and the Sword of Ork Killing. In M39, he bore the Chainaxe of Macragge for the Blamnos Campaign and the second battle of Baamageddon. He typically wore the Blue Armour with the Helm of Ultramsmurf, however in the Battle of Spinach he lost the Helm of Ultrasmurf, as such he went helmet-less until the Chapter artificers could forge him a new one. Calgar used Krak Grenades to fight the Ork Warboss Peppa Pig, and he typically kept a lava lamp that contains a secret force field generator attached to his belt.
Notable Actions
 |
A subheading listing all actions (battles, campaigns, rituals, celebrations, etc) that the subject was involved in, in list form. Compared to the main body text, this subsection should be used for small, relatively meaningless events rather than large conflicts.
- <Date>: <Event Name (if known)> - <Description>
|
- 123.M38: Something interesting happened.
- 012.M42: The Plague Wars - The forces of Nurgle attack Ultramar.
- 234.M42: The Number War - Number 9 is consumed by Number 7 in a battle known as 789, creating a planetwide conflict that draws in numbers 3, 4, and 26.
Notable Elements
 |
It is VERY IMPORTANT that notable lists remain notable. This means they can only contain around 5-10 elements, which are hand-picked as the most notable options. For example, a Space Marine Company article would only have named Captains and other hero characters in this list. An exception to this rule is Primarchs; on the Primarchs article there are 20 very notable Primarchs all included in a list of Primarchs.
An exhaustive link to all elements (notable or less-than-notable) of a list can be put at the top of the section.

Media should be grouped into sub-headers by type, as shown below.

Trivia
 |
The Trivia section contains any information that is important or interesting to know about the topic, but is not in-lore information. This includes inside jokes and facts (for example, the first world the Tyranids invaded was Latin for Breakfast), but also the Conflicting Sources sub-section, which documents any conflicting sources.
Trivia needs the {{Trivia}} disclaimer at the top of the section.

- The Novel states differently, that Perturabo’s favourite baked good was a velvet cake, and that he switched to dark chocolate after his fall to heresy with his legion.[4]
