Xana was a Forge World of the Imperium.[1a] It was the second planet of the Xana System, leading it to also be referred to as Xana II. After the Heresy it would become known as one of the first Hell Forges.[1c]

History

Symbol of Xana II[5]

Its existence rumoured by Rogue Traders and explorers from the earliest days of the Great Crusade, Xana was said to have a machine empire held by cyborg overlords and relics of the Dark Age of Technology. Whatever the truth, in 843.M30 the planet was accidentally discovered by Rogue Trader Casilida DeAniasie when she was rescued by a trio of automata warships hailing from the forgeworld.[1a] While negotiations between Mars and Xana began to the Imperium and Mars, Imperial commanders and martian emissaries grew suspicious of such a strongly-established and apparently Cult compliant forgeworld while no link to Mars and no trace of an Ark ever being sent could be found. This paradox was not helped by the Xanites' vagueness about their origins and refusal to give access to their data-loom to the Fabricator-General's ambassadors.[1a] Considering a forceful compliance of Xana might require at least a full Space Marine Legion however, Xana was ultimately allowed to maintain its sovereignty if it armed the Great Crusade and paid lip service to Mars. Its Titan Legions, the Legio Vulturum and the Legio Kydianos soon joined the Crusade in earnest.[1a] During the First Rangdan Xenocide Imperial forces rallied at Xana to turn back the Rangda tide, at a high cost in resources and troops for the forgeworld.[1a][2]

During the Horus Heresy, the Vodian Consistory leaders of Xana welcomed Horus's emissary Uncavar Noon, a Davinite Priest while still negotiating with Malcador's emissaries, but finally aligned themselves with the Warmaster in exchange for promises of independence from Mars and its Cult.[1b] The Xanite intended to seal their accord by gifting three mighty Ordinatus Ulator machines directly to Raxhal Koraddon, Reaver Chieftain and one of Horus' warlords.[1b] The Forgeworld was then subjected to a clandestine Imperial Raid to sabotage their attempts to aid the Warmaster's forces.[1d] In the bloody aftermath of the raid, only a third of Xana's fleet was left and of its three forge fanes, only one stood relatively intact. While the raid didn't thwart the alliance between the Warmaster's forces and Xana, it took several years for the forgeworld, now a prime example of the Dark Mechanicum, to feed the traitor armies with its creations. In the aftermath of the raid, the once-disgraced Magos Anacharis Scoria emerged as the most powerful figure, establishing the worlds as one of the first Hell Forges.[1c]

Operated by the Dark Mechanicum, Xana is infamous for its production of advanced wargear and Daemon Engines for the forces of Chaos. The hellish world of Xana II is believed to be a planet wholly given to daemon-machines and infernal industries, where mills grind flesh and countless millions are enslaved to work in its world-spanning factories. The masters of Xana II, often half-daemon machines themselves, have long since given up their humanity and answer to none. They sell their creations to the highest bidder, be they Chaos Space Marines, Daemon Princes, Sorcerers, or warlords and accept only human currency to feed their worlds endless requirements for slaves and souls. Xana II in particular is known for its aircraft, such as the Hell Blade and Hell Talon, which are widely used by the forces of Chaos. The Imperium remains largely ignorant of technology and weapons of the Xana II lineage.[3]

Xana's original Titan contigent was split into two Titan Legions, Legio Vulturum (known as the Gore Crows) and Legio Kydianos (known as the Death Cry).[1a][4]

Xana-Tisiphone

Xana II was orbited by Xana-Tisiphone, an experimental station and penitentiary colony that had been artificially transplanted from its previous position as Xana V. Its weapons facilities were capable of constructing Ordinatus Ulator macro-engines, and the Sheaol penitentiary facility was used to imprison Anacharis Scoria and his Battle-Automata before their escape.[1a][1c]
