Xenology is the Imperial study of Xenos. Those individuals who study xenology are known as Xenologists.[1a]

Xenology in the Imperium

The science has had a chequered history, however, and has been described as either humanity's greatest hope or its greatest folly.[1a] There is no formal training to become a Xenologist, though practitioners will need to have the resources required to carry out their work.[1d] The study of xenos can take many forms, such as Xeno-archaeology,[4] Xeno-ethnology,[3a] xenolexicography,[8] and Xenobiology.[5]

Xenobiologis are tech-priests of a Genetor sub-discipline that specialise in various forms of xenos study, such as the biology of a specific species.[9]

Xenology outside of the Imperium

Various xenos races may practice xenology as well. In these cases, humanity can be the target of the study. For example, the Necrons[7] and the Tau Empire are known to practice xenology.[6]
