Zadakiel
Zadakiel was the former Company Master of the Dark Angels Chapter's Fifth Company.[1]
Biography
At some point Zadakiel fought alongside Boreas in the liberation of the Kumenar Gap, and drove back the Arch Daemon Char Gar Kethekon. After the battle Boreas gave Zadakiel a special bolt round, inscribed with litanies, cast from metal from the shadow of the Imperial Palace, and blessed by 13 Imperial Saints.[3]
In 949.M41[6] Zadakiel led the Fifth Company in defending the planet Honoria from the Orks of Waaagh! Groblonik.[2a] When Warboss Groblonik led its Boyz in an attack on the capital city, Aurelianum, the Dark Angels responded, intending to break the Waaagh! by killing its leader. Zadakiel fought a duel with the Warboss and lost; his life was saved by the intervention of Interrogator-Chaplain Puriel, but the severity of his wounds forced him to enter a sus-an coma.[2b] Sergeant Balthasar assumed command of the Fifth Company in Zadakiel's absence.[2c]
In 961.M41 Zadakiel led 5th company, alongside Apothecary Rephial, in the Pandorax Campaign in a cleanup operation.[4]
In 999.M41[5] During a battle on Stern's Rememberance, he was killed by the Hellbrute of the Crimson Slaughter known as Mortis Metalikus and his position in the 5th Company was succeeded by Master Balthasar.[1][3]
Trivia
Zadakiel (from Hebrew for "Righteousness of God" or"Grace of God") is the archangel of freedom, benevolence and mercy.
Conflicting Sources
The audio drama The Ascension of Balthasar states that Zadakiel had become master of 5th company sometime after the hunt for Attias 20 years ago.[3] and the Crimson Slaughter codex lists the battle on Stern's Rememberance as having taken place in 999.M41[5]. This is contradicted by the Pandorax novel where Zadakiel leads 5th company in 961.M41[4] It is also contradicted again by The Eye of Ezekiel novel where Zadakiel leads 5th company[2a] earlier in the timeline in 949.M41[6]
