Ayatani Zweil was a priest who lived during the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, who joined the Tanith First and Only regiment as a preacher following the Crusade's actions on Hagia.[1c][2]

Biography

Early Life

Zweil originally served as an imhava ayatani, a type of roving priest active in the Sabbat Worlds devoted to the worship of Saint Sabbat by following the routes she took on her travels through the Cluster. He made it his mission to follow the Saint's route between Hagia and Frenghold in veneration of her, but as he got older he eventually decided to remain on Hagia, now travelling along the Tembarong Road.[1e]

Sabbat Crusade

At one point in the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, Hagia was attacked and conquered by an army of Chaos, chiefly the Infardi, led by their master Pater Sin.[1a] Although the Imperial response force led by Lord General Lugo was able to drive the Infardi out of the planet's major settlements, they triggered a psychic beacon that called enemy reinforcements to Hagia. Lugo was left no choice but to order the evacuation of all Imperial forces from Hagia, part of which involved detailing an honour guard led by Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt of the Tanith First and Only to journey to the Shrinehold of Saint Sabbat, the Saint's resting place, to recover her remains.[1b]

During the mission, the honour guard's advance scouts encountered Zweil as they were performing a sweep of the town of Mukret. Although the town had been abandoned, Zweil had journeyed there to attempt to repair the local shrine.[1c] When the rest of the honour guard arrived in Mukret, Scout-Sergeant Mkoll introduced Zweil to Gaunt.[1d] Zweil agreed to accompany the Guard at Gaunt's invitation, believing them pilgrims, of a sort, and seeing it as his duty to aid pilgrims where he was needed.[1e]

Post-Hagia

After the Crusade's actions on Hagia were concluded, Zweil remained with the Tanith First as a regimental chaplain.[2]
