Galaxy In Flames was written by Ben Counter, and is the third novel in the Horus Heresy Series. A number of authors contribute to the series, but the storyline follows the same characters through Horus' descent into Chaos. In particular this installment of the series shows the tragic events on Isstvan III where the loyalist factions of Horus' Traitor Legions were slaughtered with the use of Virus bombs deployed by Horus's fleet above. It is the announcement to the galaxy of the fall of Horus and the begining of the Horus Heresy.
The story of this third installment follows the individual stories of the main loyalist leaders on Isstvan III, Titus Cassar- the Moderati of the Imperator Titan Dies Irae, Astartes Captain Garviel Loken leader of the Sons of Horus 10th Company, and Saul Tarvitz of the Emperor's Children Legion who all have to deal with the unthinkable treachery of the Warmaster Horus.
The novel was first published in October 2006. Each print run has a different colour for the titles: First was gold, second in silver and third in bronze.
