Cover Description[1]
When the traitorous allies of Horus and Kelbor-Hal seized Mars, they sent elite hunters to apprehend key targets and ensure that any loyal resistance would fail. One such target was the legendary technoarchaeologist Arkhan Land, the discoverer of many lost treasures and curiosities from mankind's Golden Age - and the Imperial Fists cannot allow such a valuable mind to fall into the hands of the enemy. Does Land have good reason to fear his apparent saviours?
Synopsis
As the Schism of Mars tears the planet apart and threatens to deprive the loyalists of much needed war materiel, Rogal Dorn coordinates the efforts of the Imperial Fists to rescue important assets and evacuate persons of interest off the planet and into exile on Terra. Nicanor Tullus, Sergeant under First Captain's Sigismund command, is sent to extract Magos Arkhan Land. Sent alone under stealth and secrecy, Tullus manages to find Land, who rejects the idea of leaving his work behind. At the negative, Tullus aims his bolt pistol at Land, explaining that he is too important to be left behind alive. Land and Tullus proceed to escape to Zetek via the Mesatan gearworks complex while being persuaded by an enemy Vorax Class Robot. Tullus uses his body to shield Land from fire, suffering severe wounds. As they approach their extraction point, Tullus destroyed the bridge connecting to the landing point to prevent enemies from approaching. Despite this, the Vorax found them and attacked. Tullus told Land to run as he sacrificed himself to stop the hunter-killer robot. Land managed to escape the enemy's grasp and survived, taking refuge on Terra.[2]
