The Lasgun is the most common and widely spread Lasweapon in the Imperium. It is standard issue for all Imperial Guard infantry and most lower officers. It is very reliable, requires little maintenance and is very quick to produce, and as such they are available on most Imperial worlds. It has a longer range than a Laspistol, but nowhere near as powerful as a Lascannon or with the rapid firing qualities of the Multi-laser.

The Lasgun is configured for use by an individual Guardsman and as such mounts a bayonet lug which can give the standard Guardsman an extra chance to kill in close combat before he himself is killed. There are a few modified Lasguns designed to work as sniper rifles, the sniper Mad Larkin from the Gaunt's Ghosts novels by Dan Abnett carried one such modified Lasgun.

The standard pattern is known as the 'M-Galaxy' style although hundreds of thousands of variants exist, with the Cadian variant being very different from that used by the Tallarn Desert Raiders, Tanith 1st and Only or Elysian Drop Troopers.
