Van Hel

Van Hel was a Inquisitor who fell to Heresy, during the 13th Black Crusade.[1]

His downfall began as anarchy reigned through the Nemesis Sector, which many Inquisitors suspected were just symptoms of the conflict. This included the Systems that surrounded the Inquisition's fortress on Nemesis Tessera, where Van Hel served out of. However, the more Puritan-inclined of their brethren suspected there was more going on behind the Sector's outbreak of violence. They were proven correct, when Van Hel somehow fell under the sway of beings for older than him, whose words caused the Inquisitor to become a Heretic. While not all of his traitorous actions are known afterwards, some theorize that he may have been responsible for the corruption of a once peaceful sect of monks on Trinora. The Inquisitor was behind the near destruction of Nemesis Tessera though, when Van Hel accidentally opened a Warp Rift in the fortress' bowls, while under the guidance of his Chaos masters.[1]

As this was happening, a large force of Chaos Space Marines appeared and attacked the Nemesis Tessera as well. Thus it was revealed that the forces of Chaos were behind Van Hel's actions and their target was the Inquisition's fortress. However, the world would have been destroyed by the Warp Rift, were it not for the heroic actions of Inquisitor Cyarro. Thanks to him, the Rift was closed and Van Hel's treachery against the Imperium was ended. And with the aid of the Space Wolves, the Chaos Space Marines were defeated and Nemesis Tessera's fortress was saved. Afterwards, the Inquisition launched an investigation to discover how Van Hel was corrupted and if any of Nemesis Tessera's other Inquisitors had been working with him. This investigation also included claiming any artefacts or texts that had ever been in Van Hel's possession. Though it is not known what became of these items, once they were in the Inquisition's hands.[1]
