Contents
Overview
Containing the most skilled Veteran warriors of the Chapter, the 1st Company is trained in the arts of fighting in modern or ancient patterns of Power Armour, and are experts in all manner of weaponry. The majority of their warriors don Tactical Dreadnought Armour, becoming Terminator Squads, while others form Vanguard Veteran, Bladeguard Veteran, or Sternguard Veteran Squads. After the introduction of Primaris Space Marines, Veterans also began to deploy as typical squads, such as Veteran Infiltrators or Intercessors, using their superior knowledge from decades in those roles to their advantage.[1]
The Ultramarines 1st Company members have access to the Chapter's full Armoury, allowing them to deploy using their favoured wargear. The 1st Company benefits from a wealth of vehicles, from the Chapter's fleet of Land Raiders and Repulsors, to squadrons of Stormraven Gunships and several Dreadnoughts.[1]
Additionally, members of the 1st are often attached to other Battle and Reserve Companies all over the Galaxy, lending their wisdom and martial skill to support and inspire their less skilled Battle-Brothers. Sometimes, individual veterans of the 1st are chosen to join the ranks of the Victrix Guard, guarding important leaders such as the Chapter Master.[1]
The 1st Company is famous for its Strike Force Ultra formation. This formation mobilises as many battle-brothers in suits of Terminator Armour as possible, supported with heavy firepower, for the destruction of massive enemy targets such as Titans.[1]
History
During 745.M41, Hive Fleet Behemoth invaded Ultramar, pushing through the Ultramarines forces to Macragge. The 1st Company defended the northern polar fortress, reaping a heavy toll on the Tyranids. However, the Company was entirely wiped out, and many irreplaceable Terminator Armour suits were destroyed.[1]
