Adric IV was an Imperial world which contained an Ecclesiarchal hermitage. According to Brother Vielle, the bell in the bell tower was touched by the Emperor himself. The hermitage, bell, and all its members would be slain by Necron raiders save Brother Vielle himself who was the only survivor. Brother Vielle would later be interrogated, under torture, by Inquisitor Hoth who sought out more information on the Necrons.[1a]
The destruction of the hermitage on Adric IV was[1b], alongside the massacre of Sanctuary 101[2a] one of the very first Necron attacks where the Imperium became properly aware of the threat of the Necrons. Prior to this, many other such raids that may have been Necron attacks had simply left no survivors or trace of the Necrons,[1c] leaving many places as "destroyed by raiders uknown"[1b]. These two raids would prompt further investigation by the Inquisition and the realization of the necron threat,[1b] a danger to which Inquisitor Hoth would soon become an expert of.[2b]
Trivia
It is feasible that the destruction of the hermitage on Adric IV, as well as the massacre of Sanctuary 101, may be slight references to the Sack of Lindisfarne, in the sense that the destruction of its church marked the start of a greater force of raiders to come.
