"Many believe that hatred needs no reason, and knowledge of Xenos is not required when formulating their destruction. I do not agree with them, for I know better than anyone how much firepower is required to take down those metal skeletons. Understanding avoids underestimating one's enemy."

- Alvinus[1b]

Alvinus the Undead Killer is a veteran Scout Sergeant of the Ultramarines Chapter, who once served with the Deathwatch.[1b]

History

Alvinus[1b]

He earned his epithet due to Alvinus' hatred of the Necrons, which began when the Ultramarines' 2nd Company fought the Xenos in the Damnos Incident. Alvinus took part in the conflict and saw many of the Scouts he had trained, die at the hands of the Necrons. This left the Scout Sergeant mired in grief, after the battle and he vowed to seek revenge against the Xenos' species. It was for this reason, that Alvinus left to join the Deathwatch forces of Talasa Prime, when the Watch Fortress sought out new members. Once there, Alvinus proved to be a boon to his new Battle Brothers, as Damnos had given him more working knowledge of the Necrons, than many of the Deathwatch's veterans.[1b]

Amongst the notable battles Alvinus took part in with the Deathwatch, was his successful efforts to root out a hidden Necron Overlord. He was codenamed Zeta and had hidden himself within the Departmento Munitorum, where the Overlord was tampering with the Imperium's military records. But, when the Scout Sergeant and the Deathwatch fought the Overlord, Zeta was able to escape from the Xenos hunters. Alvinus has sworn, though, to hunt the Necron Overlord down, no matter where Zeta hides himself. Eventually, however, the Scout Sergeant returned to the Ultramarines and began wielding an artificer missile launcher. Like him, its machine spirit grieves the losses the Chapter suffered in the Damnos Incident, as well. But despite Alvinus no longer serving with the Deathwatch, it began providing the Scout Sergeant with Gravity Warhead Missiles to use against the Necrons.[1b]

The Deathwatch continued to do so, even when Alvinus later joined an Indomitus Crusade Fleet[1b] and aided it in reclaiming many of the Imperium's lost worlds.[1a] Even then though, the Scout Sergeant's desire to hunt down Zeta, was still on his mind.[1b] However, Alvinus service was nearly ended when the fleet was ambushed by the Prophet's Black Legion warband. This left its Space Marine Commander with no choice but to order the fleet's warships to escape into the Warp. Despite doing so, however, the Sorcerer Lord tracked them within the Warp and launched an attack on the Commander's Battle Barge flagship. But as his forces fought the Imperials, the Prophet began secretly summoning Daemons within the Battle Barge. They materialised throughout the flagship and once he was done, the Sorcerer Lord ordered his warband to withdraw. Shortly afterwards, the Daemons caused catastrophic damage to the Battle Barge and the Commander enacted an emergency exit from the Warp.[1a]

While the Crusade Fleet survived doing so, it was left scattered within a sector of the Imperium Nihilus.[1a] The Commander then began regrouping his forces and as he did so,[1c] he learned that that very same sector was now being invaded by the Prophet. The Commander then led Alvinus and the rest of his forces against the Sorcerer Lord's warband, in order to save the sector's worlds.[1d] Thanks to the Commander's leadership, the fleet was able to foil[1f] the Prophet's plot to pull the sector into the Warp,[1e] though the Sorcerer Lord escaped before the Imperials could kill him.[1f] The vengeful Prophet then sought to free the imprisoned Daemon Prince Halphas, so that he could destroy the fleet and its Commander.[1g] However, despite succeeding in doing so, the Imperials defeated the Daemon Prince. Afterwards, the Commander confronted the Prophet and once again defeated the Sorcerer Lord.[1h]
