"He who allows the alien to live shares its crime of existence."

- Inquisitor Apollyon[1a]

Apollyon was an Inquisitor.[1][2][3]

History

When the planet Khattar fell to heresy and tried to secede from the Imperium, Apollyon found out about this treachery and initiated a campaign to break the rebellion. The Inquisitor successfully blockaded Khattar's orbit with an Imperial Navy fleet but lacked the ground forces necessary to take the planet's surface.[1][2] He called upon the Celestial Lions for aid, who mobilised five companies led by Captain Saul.[2]

The Space Marines deployed to the surface and swiftly brought an end to the rebellion. As they prepared to depart Khattar and return to their homeworld, however, Apollyon ordered his fleet to bombard Khattar and exterminate all human life from it, claiming that he had judged the planet's heresy as rooted too deeply to save it.[1][2]

The Celestial Lions, appalled at the Inquisitor's actions, denounced him. They sent messages to local Imperial governments and even tried to bring word of the massacre to Terra itself. This would have dire consequences for the Chapter, as the Inquisition does not suffer challenges to its authority gladly.[1][2]
