Baldr Fjolnir was a Grey Hunter of the Space Wolves Chapter[1a], serving in the Blackmanes Great Company as a member of Járnhamar Pack.[1b]
History
Baldr accompanied his Pack under Gunnlaugur to Ras Shakeh, during which he became infected by a Nurgle plague.[1c] Falling into a coma, Baldr is guarded over by Ingvar as the city of Hjec Aleja is besieged by Chaos forces.[1d] At the height of the battle, he reawakens and saves his Pack from the Chaos Space Marine champion Thorslax the Blighted with sudden psychic abilities before falling back into a coma.[1e]
Eventually awakening in the presence of Njal Stormcaller, Baldr is cleared of any overt taint but the Rune Priest remains suspicious.[2a] Along with Njal and the bulk of his Pack, he takes part in the assault of the Nurgle Space Hulk Festerax, during which Baldr is captured by the Sorcerer Mycelite. Mycelite plans to use Baldr's psychic abilities to fuse his psyche with that of the Hulk, giving him full control over the ancient vessel revealed to be Space Wolves in origin.[2b] He is enslaved by Mycelite and forced to battle Njal, but the Rune Priest is able to break his psychic-dampening null-collar. In the sudden burst of power, Baldr kills Mycelite and regains control of himself.[2c] In the aftermath of the massive display of power, Baldr is judged a witch by Njal and condemned to execution. This does not sit well with the rest of Járnhamar Pack, which rescue him and flee their own Chapter as renegades.[2d]
Seeking a mysterious individual known as "Fulcrum" for a chance of redemption, Baldr's psychic guidance proves key in the endeavor.[3a] They eventually pursue clues to Ojada VII, finding that the Fulcrum is the heretical Cardinal Leon Chirastes.[3b] This leads them to Chirastes conspiracy to assassinate Ragnar Blackmane, who Baldr insists is not on Fenris. At the same time, Baldr's vision includes visions of Fenris' devastation.[3c]
Thanks to Baldr's psychic guidance, the pack is eventually able to find Ragnar on Cadia, waging the 13th Black Crusade.[3d] hey eventually travel to Kasr Vasta, coming across the dying Eldar Warlock Caerlainn. She removes Baldr's null-collar in exchange for the Space Wolf taking her Spirit Stone and return it to her people. With Baldr's psychic nullification gone, he is able to detect Ragnar's precise location in Kasr Vasta and reaches his full pinnacle as a Psyker.[3e] However just before reaching Ragnar, Baldr is overcome by another psychic revelation of the fall of Cadia and realizes he has another mission to attend to. Baldr descends into the tunnels deep beneath Kasr Vasta as the rest of Járnhamar Pack completes their mission, and goes missing after.[3f]
