Battle of Iota Horologii
The Battle of Iota Horologii was a battle waged by the Death Guard against the xenos Jorgall during the Great Crusade.[1a]
Overview
Fought shortly before the eruption of the Horus Heresy, the Mortarian received orders from Malcador the Sigilite, and by extension the Emperor, to exterminate the Jorgall invasion heading towards the Iota Horologii system.[1c] Mortarion's legion was reinforced by the Sisters of Silence sent by the Sigilite to utterly purge the Jorgall cylinder world. The Imperial forces struck brutally against the Jorgall invasion of Human space, taking the fight to their own Colony-ships.[1a][1b]
Lead by Mortarion himself, the Death Guard were able to easily resist the poisonous atmosphere of the Jorgall's colony-ships and fought well against their cybernetic warriors. Second Company Commander Ullis Temeter lead an engagement to disrupt the many vanguard vessels defending the xenos world ship, breaking communications to the larger vessel.[1a] First Captain Calas Typhon fought alongside Mortarion while Ignatius Grulgor penetrated the drive cluster and took out the control of the colony's power core. Meanwhile, the Colony's hatcheries of psychic juveniles were destroyed by forces under Fourth Company Captain Nathaniel Garro lead, alongside elements of the Seventh Company and the Sisters of Silence forces lead by Oblivion Knight Sister Amendera Kendel. Faced with this overwhelming assault, the Jorgall were annihilated and their civilisation was purged.[1b]
During the battle, a young Jorgall Psyker gave Garro a glimpse of the horrors that would await his Legion, but he dismissed it as a lie. The jorgall's telepathic message to Garro was cut short by Sister Kendel's swift execution to the being's chest. In accordance to secret orders from the Sigilite, the Sisters would collect the remains the oversized xenos psyker's head for their master then set fire to the egg-trees of the jorgall hatchery.[1b]
After destroying the cylinder ship, the Sisters of Silence would go on to purge all traces of the Jorgall from the system, as was their own order from the Sigilite. The specifics of their missions were unknown the Space Marine legion.[1c]
