The Battle of Ulvheim also known as the Last Battle of the Pit, was a battle of the Indomitus Crusade.[1a]

Overview

Following the earlier Battle of the Pit of Raukos, Roboute Guilliman's Indomitus Crusade was able to establish a presence in the Pit of Raukos, which became guarded by the Wolfspear Space Marine Chapter. A new route through the Great Rift into Imperium Nihilus was discovered nearby, dubbed the Attilan Gate, making the region extremely strategically important with the Nachmund Gauntlet beset by war. Guilliman dispatched Belisarius Cawl to attempt to stabilize the Gate with Necron Pylon technology.[1a]

As Cawl attempted to acquire more Necron technology from a derelict World Engine, Tetrarch of Ultramar Decimus Felix arrived at Ulvheim to reinforce the Wolfspear forces under Chapter Master Irik Stianolf. Soon after Felix's arrival, forces of Vashtorr the Arkifane began to emerge from the Pit of Raukos as part of a plan by the Daemon lord to draw out Cawl. After fighting through a scout force of Daemons and a Soul Grinder,[1b] the full invasion began under the Vashtorr-pledged Daemon Prince N'Thragor. The Chaos forces struck directly at Cawl's Pylon network on Ulvheim and the Wolfspear alongside Felix's Chosen of Vespator were about to be overrun.[1c] However it was then that the Zar-Quaesitor emerged from the Warp, carrying Cawl and his personal army of Skitarii, Battle-Automata, and House Taranis Knights. As the reinforcements arrived, Cawl was able to land on Ulvheim and use his newly acquired Necron data to activate the Pylon array.[1d] The ensuing blast of null energy banished all the Daemons and obliterated N'Thragor as he was battling Felix.[1e]

After the battle, it was revealed that Cawl's field had completely sealed the Pit of Raukos and stabilized the Attilan Gate. Cawl and Felix both announced their intentions to travel into the Gate to follow Guilliman into Imperium Nihilus.[1f]
