Cadre or Kau'ui in Tau, is the basic organisational structure of the Tau Empire's military. Cadres are comprised by a number of Teams or La'rua under a Tau Commander. Most Cadres are standing formations in contrast to the Tau Military's larger formations: multiple Cadres may form together into a Contingent, or Tio've.[1]
Known Types of Cadres
- Hunter Cadre — A versatile combined arms force, this is the most common type of Tau Cadre. [1]
- Retaliation Cadre — Groups teams of Battlesuits into a single force ideal for rapid insertion drops and counter-attacks[1]
- Infiltration Cadre — Pathfinder Teams and Stealthsuit Teams force supported by Sniper Drones and Piranha's used for reconnaissance and guerrilla warfare.[1]
- Heavy Retribution Cadre — Used to annihilate the mightiest enemies. Consists of two KV128 Stormsurges and a XV95 Ghostkeel[1a]
- Optimised Stealth Cadre — Stealthsuit Teams and an XV95 Ghostkeel
- Firebase Support Cadre — Used to assault weak spots in enemy lines. Consists of two teams of Broadside Battlesuits and a Riptide[1b]
- Armoured Interdiction Cadre — Armoured speartip launched at enemy lines. Consists of three units of Hammerheads and one Sky Ray Unit[1c]
- Ranged Support Cadre[1]

- Skysweep Missile Defence Cadre[1]
- Drone Net VX1-0 Cadre[1]
