Coheria is a crystal moon of Port Demesnus and covered in white sands of mildly psychoactive precious stone, blanketing the world like snowdrifts.[5a]
Forbidden Ritual
The Farseer intended to seize control of the Demesnan moon in order to commit a forbidden ritual capable of awakening a slumbering god[2] and dealing a death blow to Slaanesh.[4b] The ritual had planned to use the crystal seers[5c] stolen by the Masque of the Midnight Sorrow from various craftworlds,[5b][5d] to be use as conduits to channel the souls from their craftworlds' infinity circuits into the psychocrystal sands of Coheria. Thus, every innumerable grain of sand on the crystal moon would act as a waystone for a spirit[5c] and creating a focus for Ynnead's abstract soul, similar to how a spiritseer would call the spirits of wraith constructs to war, but on a far vaster scale.[5d] This would create a psychic beacon bright enough to stir a nascent god, awakening the slumbering Ynnead, bringing about His apotheosis.[5c]
Should the ritual have succeeded, the moon Coheria would blaze briefly as a psychic sun, making even the Astronomican of humanity's Emperor appear as a candle before a blazing furnace.[5d]
History
Coheria had once been at the edges of the ancient Aeldari Empire. The psychic shock-wave that doomed the Aeldari empire reached the cusp of Coheria, depositing the psychoactive crystal sands blanketing the landscape. The world became saturated in psychic residue. Each tiny grain of sand had absorbed immense psychic potential.[5a]
At the close of M41, crystal moon of Coheria was rediscovered by Pathfinders of Alaitoc, led by Illic Nightspear,[5a] while braving a shattered spar of the webway.[5c] The Seer Councils would be notified of this discovery.[5a] Eldrad Ulthran upon Craftworld Ulthwé was the first to learn of this. Eldrad sequestered Illic upon his arrival and was persuaded to impart his news and then leave without a trace. Learning of its psychocrystal sands was a great revelation and he began the preparations for a dangerous plan. Part of this involved projecting his consciousness into the webway, lending the aid of his spirit to the Midnight Sorrow's defence of the Black Library, and enlisting the help of Inriam's Spectre.[5c]
Battle of Port Demesnus
The World was the site of a battle between the Harlequins of the Masque of the Midnight Sorrow led by Farseer Eldrad Ulthran and Space Marines of the Deathwatch led by Watch Captain Artemis.[1a][1b]
Artemis received a distress call from Port Demesnus. After he realized what Eldrad's motives were, Artemis quickly diverted his Deathwatch strike force from its original mission and led them against the Farseer's forces on Coheria.[2] Artemis was able to disrupt Eldrad's scheme but not completely defeat him.[1a] The miscarried ritual had twisted fate. The ascension of Ynnead roused the slumbering God of Death at the exact moment Yvraine died in the Crucibael.[4a]
