Decius Krassus is a Commissar of the Militarum Tempestus active in late M41. He is the brother of Magnus Krassus.[1a]

Biography

During the Third Tyrannic War, Krassus was ordered to travel to the Imperial planet Xariss, which lay in the path of the Tyranids of Hive Fleet Leviathan. Although the planet itself was considered lost before the xenos even reached it, Krassus was tasked with extracting Xariss's Planetary Governor, Vallera Dresis, and evacuating her offworld.[1a]

For the mission, Krassus was accompanied by the Catachan 1845th regiment. Unfortunately for the Commissar, the Catachans had already suffered significant casualties in their previous engagement with the Tyranids on a nearby Shrine World; the regiment now numbered only 400 men, most of whom were new recruits. As a result the Catachans' morale was low - early into the mission Krassus was forced to execute a Guardsman who simply refused to go any further. In order to reach the Governor's palace one mile away from their landing point, Krassus was forced to lead from the front.[1a]

Krassus received unexpected assistance, however, when he received a vox message from Tempestor Prime Cadmur that he and his 99th Deltic Gorgonnes were inbound to reinforce the Commissar and his men. Together the Imperials reached Governor Dresis's palace, only to discover that the Governor and her men had turned to the worship of Dark Gods.[1a]

Despite the Catachans' fury at being asked to escort a heretic, Krassus insisted that their orders were to extract Dresis and deliver her to Imperial authorities - even shooting two Catachans who refused to obey. Fighting through Gaunt swarms and ambushes by Mawlocs, the Imperials made their way to their evac point and extracted via the Gorgonnes' Valkyries.[1a]

Notes

  • The source mentions another Commissar named Krassus, but does not give his first name.[1b] It is possible that this Krassus is the same individual as Decius Krassus, but this is unconfirmed.
