Diess was a cultist officer from the planet Colcha who became part of the army of the Manskinner, leading a cavalry division.[1]
When the Manskinner's army was stranded on Empyrion IX, they faced a detachment of Black Templars between them and the planet's spaceport. Diess and his cavalry were given the honour of leading the first attack against the Templars, but the Space Marines wiped out the horsemen in short order, with Diess himself killed in a duel with Sergeant Kytellias.[1]
