The Great Inventor is a Tzeentch Lord of Change.[1a]

History

The well deserved name was given to the young Greater Daemon by his fellow Lords of Change, as he had created many things.[1a] This included the Juggernaut Battleship[1c] and the region of the Eye of Terror, known as the Rose Cluster.[1b] He was also called the Finder of Ways and mockingly, the Weaver of Stratagems that Fall Apart. In late M41, he sought to enact a plan that would see Tzeentch rule supreme over Realspace and the Warp. By doing so, the Great Inventor would also earn his place as the Chaos God's most favoured servant. The first part of the Lord of Change's plan involved defeating the Emperor and the Imperium with the use of False Matter. This used the power of Chaos to create matter from the Warp, which would allow Demons to easily materialize into Realspace. No longer would they be restrained, by having to materialize through possessing mortals.[1a] An ancient Lord of Change, who was among the first to be created by Tzeencth, had told the Great Inventor of its secret existence[1e] and the young Greater Daemon had taken a millennia to learn how to create the substance.[1a] Though perfection still eluded him, as the Inventor could only make the False Matter last for several days, in controlled conditions within the Eye, before it began to disintegrate.[1c] In order to achieve his victory against the Imperium, the Lord of Change needed more resources[1a] to perfect the creation of False Matter, so that it would last permanently.[1c] This would take more than the worlds and Chaos forces he commanded in the Eye of Terror, however. After some consideration, the Lord of Change sought to make an alliance with the Bloodthirster known as the Deathbringer, who also had a domain in the Eye. Together they would be able to make the Inventor's plan to defeat the Imperium possible,[1a] and the Inventor hoped it would lead to a permanent alliance between the Chaos Gods Tzeentch and Khorne. With their forces united, they would be able to defeat the Imperium and their fellow Chaos Gods Nurgle and Slaanesh. Of course once they were no longer needed, the Great Inventor would betray the Bloodthirster and Khorne, so that only Tzeentch ruled over everything.[1d]

When the Lord of Change asked for his aid, however, the Deathbringer remarked he would do so only if the Inventor defeated him in combat. The two then duelled in the Eye of Terror, which ended when the Lord of Change used his Warp magic to defeat the Bloodthirster. Their contest was not yet done, though, as they each next selected a world that they ruled and had their populations fight each other. This was done by whisking the two worlds from their domains and connecting them together with a long bridge. It become the site of the final battle between the two Greater Daemons, as their Daemon Princes led their forces into battle on the bridge. The Great Inventor, though, would seal his victory by having his armies purposefully move in a united direction over the course of the battle. Doing so caused many of the Deathbringer's forces to fall off of the bridge and into space, which allowed the Lord of Change to win their duel. After the Bloodthirster conceded and agreed to their alliance, the Deathbringer fully shared everything he ruled with the Inventor. This included a dozen Hell Forges that they then visited at once and left their still combined worlds to drift in the Eye of Terror. Once at the Hell Forges, the Great Inventor shared his plan of creating False Matter, which was key to his goal of defeating the Imperium. He then had his newly acquired Hell Forges begin creating the substance,[1a] which the Great Inventor used to build a vast warfleet within the Eye of Terror. However, the construction site was later seen by an Imperial Null Ship that had been sent to observe the cursed region and the Lord of Change's forces attacked it. The Null Ship managed to escape back into the Imperium, though, and was taken by Lord High Admiral Drang, who learned of its discovery of the Chaos warfleet being built. He brought news of this to his comrade, Lord High Admiral Invisticone, and they brought their fleets into the Eye of Terror in order to destroy the Great Inventor's warfleet before it could threatened the Imperium. They then attacked the Chaos warships, but the imagined threat were just illusions that the Lord of Change had created in order to lure the Imperium into the Eye. Now that they had done so, the Great Inventor could test his False Matter warfleet against its might and weaken his foe as well.[1c]

The Great Inventor and the Deathbringer then led their new warships into attacking the Lord High Admirals' fleets, after the two had invaded the Inventor's Hell Forges. Though they were in an alliance, the Greater Daemons' forces each fought beside their own kind, as they attacked the unified Imperials. However this would quickly change, when Drang's flagship, the Rectitude, lost power after being rammed by a Juggernaut Battleship. This left Invisticone in command and the battle would last for several more days afterwards. The Inventor's warfleet began to fall apart, though, on the fourth day of the battle, as its False Matter started to disintegrate. When Lord High Admiral Invisticone saw this, he believed his forces had ended the warfleet's threat to the Imperium and led his surviving warships out of the Eye of Terror. The Lord of Change, though, had known the False Matter would fall apart and was pleased with how his plan to test the substance against the Imperium's might had gone.[1c] The two Greater Daemons then gathered their forces together to celebrate their victory. The Great Inventor informed the gathered hordes that the Emperor and the Imperium would defeated once he perfected the creation of False Matter. After doing so, there would be no limit to what he could create, including vast warfleets, entire worlds, or even a facsimile of the Emperor Himself, that the Lord of Change controlled. But he informed them that they would all need to have patience, in order to ensure his plan succeeded.[1d]

However, the Great Inventor's alliance with the Deathbringer had been discovered by one of the Chaos God Slaanesh's Keepers of Secrets. The Greater Daemon had the ability to hear anything said in any dimension and knew how disastrous this united front would be for Slaanesh. It than sought a way to break the two Greater Daemons apart and found one, as the Inventor and the Deathbringer were celebrating their victory. This was in the form of the Fallen Angel Abdaziel Magron, who had only just briefly began serving Khorne before rejecting the Chaos God to serve the Emperor once more. However, Magron still bore the symbols of the Blood God on his power armour, which made him the ideal solution to destroy the Great Inventor's alliance. The Keeper then contacted a Daemonette close to the Fallen Angel, which transported the wary Magron to the Great Inventor's location, during the Lord of Change's speech. Despite being brought against his will, the Fallen Angel knew he had to destroy the two Greater Daemon's alliance in order to save the Imperium. Sensing that the Deathbringer and his forces were wary of having to have "patience", instead of spilling blood instead, Magron yelled out, "Blood for the Blood God" as loud as he could. This was then taken up by the servants of Khorne and they soon began attacking the Great Inventor's Tzeentch forces. Even the Deathbringer took up the cry and attacked the Lord of Change, while cursing the Inventor's need for grand schemes and bloodless patience. This battle engulfed their forces and not only ended their alliance, but also began another war between their Chaos Gods as well.[1d]

The Great Inventor was able to escape the battle, but was left wounded by his fight with the Deathbringer. However he was soon found by a group of Lords of Change, who began mocking the Inventor for having his alliance destroyed by the actions of a single Space Marine. After being called the Weaver of Stratagems that Fall Apart, the Inventor was confronted by a Lord of Change who claimed that his reliance on False Matter had always meant his plans were doomed to fail. The substance could never be made stable, regardless of the length of time spent doing so, and its existence was not some unknown secret, as others had made use of False Matter before him. The ancient Lord of Change that had told him of False Matter, had lied to the young Greater Daemon from the start and the Great Inventor had proceeded to commit the sin of being over-confident afterwards. Worse still, the group of Lords of Change informed him that his failures had earned the ire of Tzeentch itself, who now desired to punish the Great Inventor and make him suffer. This led the Chaos God to give the Lords of Change the Inventor's True Name and in doings so, they now had power over him. The group proceeded to shout his True Name and as they did so, the Great Inventor lost his powers and his form wilted. He soon fled from them and sought safety in a wildernesses region of the Warp, that contained mindless Daemons that repeatedly bubbled into and out of existence. This was later discovered by the ancient Lord of Change that had caused the Great Inventor's downfall, and he easily discarded the young Greater Daemon's fate. In truth, the Inventor had merely been a pawn in the ancient Lord of Change's own schemes to destroy the Emperor. Now that his plan had failed, though, the Greater Daemon simply began waiting until an opportunity arrived for him to start another one.[1e]
