Ikaneos
Ikaneos is a stellar system consisting of four planetary bodies circling a dull red star. Three of the planets are gas giants. The innermost planet lies within the system's habitable zone and is a rocky world designated as Ikaneos-Alpha.[1b]
The system was designated Interdictus Absolutus by the Magos Mechanicus in standard year M37.937.413. So named the 'Ikaneos Quarantine' under the edict of Fabricator General Tynovaren of Mars, no exemption from this edict is permitted.[1a]
Overview
The stellar system’s common designation was Ikaneos. Within the circles of galactic cartography and stellar classification, it was a question mark, a blank space within a map the adepts of the Omnissiah had spent millennia filling in.[1a]
Distant observation, made through the ancient methods of electro magnetic astronomy, confirmed a clutch of worlds circling an unremarkable star. Yet no vessel, no astropathic missive, had ever returned from the system. Lyterix was aware of four separate expeditions mounted in the 36th millennium, each of increasing strength and size, that had been dispatched to probe its depths. All had been swallowed by whatever lay within the system’s heliosphere. After the failure of the last mission, the sector conclave of Imperial governors and Mechanicus dominars proscribed any further attempts at exploration.[1a]
It was, in short, a mystery, from which the Adeptus Mechanicus had deliberately turned away.[1a]
