History
Originally, Kathlan was a lush Exodite World that had been colonized by the Asuryani Craftworld Riellen in the distant past, along with Avalath. When Adeptus Mechanicus colonists first discovered the Khaldun Sector, they signed a peace treaty with Riellen so that the colonists could focus on other threats, as they claimed the Sector for the Imperium. This treaty recognized the Craftworld's sovereignty over the two Exodite Worlds and the peace continued, even after the Imperium gained control of the Khaldun Sector. This lasted for several centuries, until Riellen was blamed for an attack the Drukhari committed on the Mining World Zembrie.[1]
This brought an end to the peace treaty, and the Imperium performed an Exterminatus against Kathlan by unleashing a virus bomb upon it. Avalath's population, meanwhile, was slaughtered and then buried in city-sized mass graves. The Aeldari technology they contained was then sent to the Mechanicus base on Ilnor to be studied. This later led Ilnor to be the first world that was targeted by Riellen, when the Craftworld began the War for the Khaldun Sector.[1]
Trivia
- Kathlan was created by Pierre Dahl and it appeared in Firepower Issue 3.[1]
Notes
- Note 1: Firepower Issue 3 states that the Khaldun Sector is in Segmentum Obscurus.[1] However, the Forge World of Tolkhan is also stated to lie in the Khaldun Sector[1], despite other sources stating that it is in the Segmentum Tempestus.[2]
