Description

The Sector has fifteen primary Systems, with twelve of them being inhabited. Khaldun's principle system is the Tolkhan System, which contains the Sector Capital Forge World Tolkhan. The Forge World is home to the Legio Pallidus Mors Titan Legion and Tolkhan also has six Knight Worlds that are sworn to serve it. These Knight Worlds surround the Forge World's relative position within the Khaldun Sector.[1]

History

Khaldun was discovered by Adeptus Mechanicus colonists from Mars, some eight hundred years into the first exodus, along with their accompanying Titan Legion Legio Pallidus Mors. At that time, the Sector was ravaged by war and only a few of Khaldun's Systems were controlled by Human civilizations. This included several Knight Worlds, but none of these civilizations had access to Warp travel. Worse still, the civilizations were riddle with strife, which saw them fight against each other, along with the Xenos dwelling in the Sector. Among them were the Orks, who held several domains and also the systems that held the Aeldari Exodite worlds, Avalath and Kathlan. The Mechanicus colonists immediately began to rectify this, by uniting the Human civilizations together and they then selected Tolkhan, to be their new home which would become a Forge World. The next several decades, were spent destroying the Xenos species within the Khaldun Sector, so that it could be claimed by the Imperium. In order to do this, though, a peace treaty was signed with the Asuryani Craftworld Riellen, who had originally colonized the Exodite Worlds Avalath and Kathlan. The treaty officially recognized the Xenos' sovereignty over the two worlds and it helped allow the Khaldun Sector to be claimed by the Imperium.[1]

The peace treaty between Riellen and the Imperium though, was unstable at best for several reasons. Among them, was that the Adeptus Mechanicus suspected that the Craftworld was harboring technological secrets on the Exodite Worlds, which the Mechanicus coveted for themselves. Also the High Monarchs who ruled Khaldun's Knight Worlds, had not forgotten the many wars they had waged against the Xenos. Matters finally came to a head centuries later, when the Drukhari raided the Sector's Mining World Zembrie and the attack was blamed on the Craftworld. This brought an end to the peace treaty and the Imperium performed an Exterminatus against Kathlan, while Avalath's population was slaughtered. The Aeldari technology they contained was then sent to the Adeptus Mechanicus base on Ilnor, where it began to be studied. However the Imperium was unaware, that the two Exodite Worlds had each asked Riellen for help before they were attacked. Though their pleas were received, the Craftworld did not act until one hundred and twenty years later, when Riellen suddenly invaded and began the War for the Khaldun Sector in late M41. With surprise and speed on their side, the Craftworld was able to control eighty percent of the Sector for eight years, until a constant flow of Imperial reinforcements caused this to change. While this led to several systems being reclaimed by the Imperium, the War for Khaldun was far from being finished.[1] However it is not known what the status of the Khaldun Sector is in M42.[3]
