The Kuloqa are a Necromundan Ratskins tribe that reside in Hive Primus' Underhive.[1]

History

Their name is derived from Kuloq, which is what the Ratskins call themselves, and translates into Gothic as either The True People or perhaps The Original People. This is similar to the Kuloq translation as The People and the Kuloqa are considered to be the most traditional of the Ratskins' tribes. This is due to the fact they believe that maintaining their ancestors' customs and religious practices is essential for the preservation of their people. This includes a young Kuloqa warrior's rite of passage into manhood, which has them hunt down and kill a Necromundan Giant Rat. They must do so while being alone and unarmed in the Underhive and then must consume the rat's heart in order to gain its strength. Upon doing so, the warrior will wear the skin of their kill around their head and shoulders, before returning to the Kuloqa as a Brave.[1]

The Kuloqa are also by far the largest of the Ratskins' tribes and the one the Imperium has the most contact with. Their relations are far from cordial, though, and decades of interference and abuse, have led the Kuloqa's High Elders to forbid any dealing with the Imperium. Those Kuloqa who disobey this ruling are considered to be tainted and become Badskins, who are forever banished from their people. It has also been noted by the Imperium that the tribe looks nearly identical to the Dapakkani Ratskins, except that the Dapakkani prefer darker colours.[1]
