Kurov
Kurov was an Imperial Guard General of the Armageddon Steel Legion[2] and one of the most gifted officers in Imperial history.[1]
Kurov began his service in the Second War for Armageddon as a young Lieutenant, where he fought at Hive Tartarus. By the end of the Second War he had been promoted to Colonel. Between the two wars for Armageddon Kurov fought in the Bakkus Crusade, where he rose through the ranks to join Lord Commander Bock's staff.[5]
Kurov was one of the primary Imperial Guard officers to take part in the Third War for Armageddon, at one point being in overall command of all forces on Armageddon.[5] By this time, he had lead the Council of Armageddon for several decades.[2]
Upon his retirement, he recorded dozens of tactical treatises that were translated into vox-ghosts by the Adeptus Mechanicus and uploaded into a two-headed avian servitor referred to as Kurov's Aquila.[1]
Kurov is also recorded to have died in battle during the Third War during the Second Mannheim Siege.[3]
Conflicting sources
Kurov is given two different full names by different sources:
- The novella Blood and Fire states that his full name is "Arvaley Kurov".[3]
- The 3rd Edition Armageddon codex and White Dwarf 287, however, give Kurov's full name as "Vladimer Nikita Kurov".[4][5]
Kurov is noted as having both retired and having died in combat:
- The novella Blood and Fire states that he fell in combat,[3]
- The 6th Edition Astra Militarum Codex states that he retired.[1]
