Talk:Kurov
From Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum
Names
Why are we assuming that "Arvaley Kurov" from the Blood and Fire novella and "Vladimer Nikita Kurov" are the same person? Just because they are both General Kurovs? Multiple generals fought on Armageddon.
- Great question. I only reformated that info, KazilDarkeye made the original edit back in 2020 with the trivia of the different names. 37thHarakoni (talk) 23:57, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
- I've looked through both Helsreach and Blood and Fire now to double check this. The General Kurov in Helsreach is definitely Nikita Kurov, they explicitly mention he is the leader of the military council. The name "Arvaley" is not mentioned once in the book Helsreach. In contrast, the General Kurov in Blood and Fire is the overall commander for the Helsreach region following Grimaldus's battle at the Temple of the Emperor Ascendant. There are no explicit references to them being the supreme commander of all forces on Armageddon alongside Yarrick. The first name "Arvaley" is only used on their memorial in the epilogue. The writing somewhat suggests they are the same character (the Kurov in the novella is certainly familiar with Grimaldus), but without direct confirmation I think we have to assume they are different people. In particular, I see no indication that Nikita Kurov was not still in overall command of Armageddon's forces by the end of the Season of Fire, still operating out of Hive Infernus. The Battle for Armageddon background book is set after the departure of Ghazghkull, Yarrick, and Helbrecht towards the end of the Season of Fire and Nikita Kurov is still issuing orders from Infernus. Blood and Fire is set during the early Season of Fire just as Ghazghkull leaves and Helbrecht and Yarrick are preparing to leave Armageddon in pursuit. To me, this is pretty conclusive that they are different people unless a direct contradiction is found. Haighus (talk) 14:35, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
