Kyganil
"It has been a long and bloody road that I have walked since last we spoke, one that brought me by dark ways through the gates of this world."[3]
Mehsa Luyet-Kyganil,[1] or Kyganil of the Bloody Tears, also known as the Knight of Shadows[4] is a mysterious Eldar who acts as a companion to Ephrael Stern.[1] For nearly three hundred years he was known only as "the Pariah", as his name was erased for his desertion of his fellow Harlequins,[3] and though he is now remembered by his true name he still answers to Pariah.[1]
History
Pariah
Kyganil was once a Harlequin but he deserted his Troupe aboard the Viorag Naggath (literally "the Ship of Fools") as it was overwhelmed by Chaos and thrown into the Warp. For this action Kyganil abandoned his name in dishonour, only answering to "the Pariah".[4]
For three hundred years Kyganil walked the Path of the Outcast, only feeling that he could reclaim his name after intercepting the Viorag Naggath as it reentered Reality in the Taurus Rift to reclaim and inter the Soul-Stones of his fellow Troupers within the Dome of Crystal Seers of an un-named craftworld – and sending the remainder of the Chaos-tainted Viorag Naggath into a nearby star.[4]
While within the Dome of Crystal Seers, Kyganil was approached by the Shadow Seer Gavrosh Askar where he was reanointed as the "Knight of Shadows" in accordance with a Harlequin prophecy and sent to guard a Human child known as the Thrice Born.[4]
Ephrael Stern
Kyganil rescued Ephrael Stern from Dark Eldar Mandrakes of the Kabal of the Poisoned Heart, demonstrating blinding speed and proficiency with his weapons. He would then spirit Stern away into the Webway through the use of a portal, but later they were both captured by the forces of Chaos lead by Ahriman.[1] The pair later entered the Black Library.[3]
Ynnari
Kyganil has brought Stern into contact with the Ynnari. During the Pariah Crusade, he made a sudden appearance to aid Battle Group Kallides and Stern in a fight against the forces of the Nihilakh Dynasty. He had attempted to bring the Ynnari's forces with him, but they refused to provide aid.[3]
Wargear
Kyganil wields a pair of deadly swords known as the Outcast's Blades, as well as a Harlequin's Kiss. He also carries plasma grenades.
