Leonova is a Hive World and premier Mining World located in the Gravchek System of the Macharian Sector. It is famed for its gem-cutting industries and crystalline mines, providing precision minerals used across the Imperium.[1]

Geography and Industry

Leonova is a world of extremes, its surface dominated by vast chasms of crystal and immense hive cities. Mining and refining of rare gem deposits forms the backbone of the economy. Of particular note is the production of exquisite focusing crystals used in Eskutchax pattern lasguns, as well as components for precision tools and key Imperial devices. [1]

The planet has long been a prize for its mineral wealth. Its population lives primarily within towering hives such as Oberyl, surrounded by gem-cutting manufactoria and refinery-stacks.[1]

Leonovan Astra Militarum regiments are issued Service Identity Tags of etched crystal repurposed from the waste of the world’s extensive gemstone mining.[2]

History

Leonova’s industrial history predates the return of the Imperium, when its fiercely individualistic traders operated independently before being bound into the Emperor’s service. For millennia, the noble houses of Leonova have guarded their secrets and resisted scrutiny, with many attempts to penetrate their dealings ending in failure or death.[1]

In recent centuries, Leonova has become a vital cog in the supply lines of the Macharian Sector, both for its military-grade lasgun crystals and for the steady flow of rare minerals demanded by the Administratum.[1]

Personalities of Leonova

  • Administratum Prefectus Hidemistus – Overseer of the Departmento Munitorum presence in Hive Oberyl. Hidemistus is tasked with tracking every crystal produced across 2,281 levels of the hive. Their tangled datavaults suggest crystals are being diverted into illicit channels, possibly even to heretical cults. Of particular concern are shipments traced to Goros Pok and mentions of the Sect of the Twisted Sickle.[1]
  • Leona Leonova-Wolff – Newly installed Planetary Governor after the deaths of her husband and father. Leona is painfully aware of Leonova’s corruption but embraces it as an unavoidable truth, believing that the Emperor’s gaze will eventually purge the unworthy. Her personal philosophy is that it is better to die serving His unknowable plan than live as a hypocrite.[1]

Factions of Leonova

  • Adeptus Mechanicus – The Tech-Priesthood of Eskutchax maintains forge-fanes in every hive, overseeing mining machinery, tectonic fragdrills, and void-docks. Their presence is strong but often strained by friction with the Highborn, who deride them as “cogfolk.”[1]
  • Administratum – Millions of scribes, tallymen, and overseers record every shipment and enforce quotas. Their labyrinthine bureaucracy overlaps with the Munitorum, which depends on Leonova’s gem production for lasgun crystals.[1]
  • Noble Houses – Secretive and self-protective, Leonova’s noble houses manipulate production and trade behind closed doors. Their reticence fuels suspicions of corruption, cult influence, and illicit trade with criminal factions.[1]
  • Infractionist Gangs – Numerous hive gangs operate across the under-levels, some suspected of collaborating directly with Administratum functionaries. Their activities blur the lines between organised crime, rebellion, and sanctioned labour control.[1]
