Lern
Lern was a Cadian Astra Militarum Captain[1a], in Colonel Elena Broski's Cadian 727th Army Group[1b] during the Charadon Campaign's invasion of the Alumax System.[1c]
History
She made Saint Bartolph's Throne her base of operations, during the invasion and thanks to the 727th's efforts that world was the last to fall[1b]. When the end came, Captain Lern had been stationed within Hive Grangis, where the Cadias fought beside militia and gang members. When the Death Guard toppled its defenses, Lern led what Hive natives and Cadians he found to hide within the Hive. Among them was the gang leader Kendar, who Lern hated and knew who attempt to overthrow the Captain's leadership if he could. The only thing preventing Kendar from doing so, was that the Cadians within Lern's group outnumbered the Hive natives. This soon changed, though, as the group was forced to fight against the Death Guard, Cultists and other desperate survivors within Hive Grangis' ruins. After several battles, only Lern and the Guardsman Harala were left of the Cadians he had commanded. By that time, however, both men grew to respect each other, with Lern claiming that Kendar was one of the best war leaders he had ever seen. Sometime after that, Lern's group began to be repeatedly attacked by what they believed was a Cult of Heretics. After months of such attacks, Lern's group was worn down and out of food and nearly the last of their ammunition. A patrol led by Kendar brought good news, however, when they discovered the Cult's hideout and Lern led his group in a desperate attack.[1a]

With the element of surprise on their side, Lern's group were able to storm the Cult's hideout. After killing the last of the Cult's defenders, Lern's group entered their hideout in order to find food and supplies. Instead they discovered little in supplies and a number of wounded Cultists who, to Lern's shock, accused the Captain's group of being Heretics. Lern was driven to dismay and despair when he saw these supposed Cultists preying to the Emperor and found a fellow Cadian among their number. This drove the truth home to Lern, that these were fellow Imperial survivors like his own group. It was only their bedraggled and hungered appearance, that had led each group to believe the other were Cultists[1a]. It is not known what became of Lern's group afterwards, but they were likely killed, when Typhus the Traveler destroyed Saint Bartolph's Throne in a Nurgle empowered ritual.[1b]
