Maurtear is an Asuryani Exarch.^[1]

History

He was among^[1] the species' forces that invaded the Chinchare sub-sector, in the wake of the 13th Black Crusade. However the Imperium later launched the Dark Crusade's Kith Campaign against the invading Asuryani^[2] and Maurtear was made one of its priority targets. He became known as the Scourge of the Burnicus Subsector and a champion for his species, after the Exarch raided many of the Imperial colonies, Munitorum storehouses and other vulnerable targets within the Bunicus Subsector. This led him to be declared Xenos Purgatus by the legendary Inquisitor Alexander Mane and no effort was spared to track down and kill Maurtear and his warriors.^[1] However while the Asuryani were eventually defeated by the Imperium's forces,^[2] Maurtear survived the conflict.^[1]

Maurtear, Alexander Mane and the Burnicus Subsector were created for the Dark Crusade Campaign by the Hobby Center staff of Games Workshop's Glen Burnie HQ store^[1] in Glen Burnie, Maryland, USA.^[3]
