Biography
It was 3rd Company Captain Jehnnus Ardias who first honoured his warriors by taking the company’s heraldic colour and working it into his personal heraldry. This tradition has been maintained ever since, with Captain Mikael Fabian proving no exception. Fabian is a hard-headed and stubborn warrior whose xenophobic hatred is so pronounced that it knows few equals, even amongst the alien-hunting specialists of the Ordo Xenos, and a direct man who prefers thorough and straightforward solutions. He is more than happy to unleash overwhelming force in order to make absolutely sure that an alien infestation has been eradicated, and favours the deployment of flamer weaponry, Land Raider Redeemers and copious hellfire rounds. For all his stern intractability, Captain Fabian expects all of his warriors to be forthright with him in sharing their strategic appraisal of the developing battlefield situation, and has been known to shift plans on the advice of a single well-placed battle-brother.[7]
3rd/1st Company
Fabian initially served as a Battle-Brother under 3rd Company Captain Saul Invictus, and when Invictus was promoted to Captain of the 1st Company, Fabian was promoted to Veteran status as well.[9]
As a member of the 1st Company, Fabian fought on Yogth XII, in the Voidlight Crusade, and against the Lords of Orac.[9] During the Joran Retribution, his Company fought alongside the 3rd Company, then led by Jehnnus Ardias.[9] Ardias was tragically slain at an extraction site on Joran VI, and when both Companies were recalled to Ultramar to combat Hive Fleet Behemoth in the First Tyrannic War, Fabian was given command of the 3rd Company by Marneus Calgar.[9]
Captaincy
Shortly before the Siege of Zalathras, Fabian was leading the 3rd Company, and the Deo Volante fleet, against traitor forces in the systems beyond Iax. He was confident that with the guard divisions assigned to him he could mop up resistance on the cleansed worlds, and still proceed with an offensive on schedule.[8]
In the aftermath of the Bloodborn's failed Invasion of Ultramar, Fabian was overseeing the resupply of his forces on Macragge as they prepared to depart on the warship Accipiter. When their rearmament was nearly done, Fabian boarded a Thunderhawk to take him back to the warship, but disaster struck when it neared the orbital Lysis Macar littoral platform. At that exact moment, a group of surviving Bloodborn Cultists activated an atomic bomb that destroyed the littoral platform and the electromagnetic pulse from the explosion hit dozens of aircraft near the Lysis Macar. The pulse made the aircrafts' avionics and engine controls short out, which caused the uncontrollable aircraft to hurtle towards the ground. Fabian's Thunderhawk was among them and it shattered to pieces when it hit one of Macragge's oceans.[2]
However, he survived the crash and was later present on the world of Sycorax, along with Uriel Ventris as the 3rd and 4th companies of the Ultramarines defended the world from a virulent Ork infestation.[5]
Sometime later the Captain joined the Indomitus Crusade and led his Company to battle against the forces of Chaos in the Koryndil Reach. Due to the effects of the Great Rift's creation, communication between the Crusade's far flung forces was difficult, but its leadership later received a message of ill tidings from Fabian. Composed of only a single sentence, it stated that the Third had suffered a great defeat and afterwards the Indomitus Crusade received no further contact from the Captain.[6]
Fabian later led the 3rd in the Ultramarian Reclamation.[11]
Heraldry
As Captain of the 3rd Company, Fabian’s right shoulder pad features a combination of red 3rd Company livery and his own personal heraldry. Notably, the colours of the trim and the pauldron are inverted, the interior is red and the trim is blue.[7]
