The Neimos is a combat submarine originally build along with many other such vessels during the Great Crusade for service in the Imperial Army.[1]

Description

The streamlined Neimos has a rounded prow and a teardrop stern with stubby wings arrayed in an X-pattern. The stern houses the thrusters which recessed into the hull when not in operation. Its extremely durable and flexible hull is constructed from a spun sentanium/ceramite mix, reinforced with additional ablative armour.[2a] It is capable of being dropped directly from orbit onto the surface of ocean worlds[1] with the help of ballute arrays to slow the fall and shunt field systems to survive atmospheric reentry.[2a] The shunt field is only powerful enough to protect the bridge, which is mounted on shock-resistant mechanisms. The crew has to enter special descent capsule, which fill themselves with shock-absorbing bio-gels.[2b]

During a descent operation, a process that only takes seconds, the ablative armour burns off, at which point energy-syphonig technologies convert the mounting heat into power. When the ballute array is triggered, great grey-blue cones made from synthsilk emerge from the stern and fill themselves with gasses from the engine and the local atmosphere. The ballutes, in combination with the now extended winglets, slow the fall until impact, at which pojint flicker-fast gravity displacement fields allow the Neimos to rapidly descent beneath the surface.[2b]

Underwater the Neimos is propelled by drive system based upon designs from ancient Terra.[2c] Power is provided by a fusion reactor made from titanium and hyper-dense alloys. The enginarium section is more armoured than any other section of the vessel.[2d]

The Neimos is armed with blue-green frequency lascannon turrets, tuned for underwater operations,[2d] one of which is situated on the dorsal hull.[2a] When submerged, the Neimos can deploy a sensor pod coated in low-visibility, detection-resistant materials, tethered to the vessel by a long cable, to gather data and to sample the atmosphere.[2b]

Usually operated by baseline humans, the Neimos can be rapidly modified to be operated by a crew consisting of Astartes and servitors.[2a]

History

By M41 the Neimos was recovered by Magos Zellik[1] from a space hulk in the Drache sector[2a] for his collection. It was used by a combined Blood Angels/Flesh Tearers strike force for covert insertion onto Dynikas V.[1]
