Nmembo was a Hetaeron Compaion in the Legio Custodes, who took part in the Horus Heresy's Siege of Terra.[1a]

History

A proven exemplar of the Custodes' excellence,[2] he was among the one hundred Hetaeron Companions[1e] that Caecaltus Dusk commanded as the Emperor led a Teleportation attack on Warmaster Horus' flagship, the Vengeful Spirit. But due to Horus' machinations, the strike force's teleportation separated them all and the Emperor and the Companions found themselves alone within one of the Spirit's hanger bays.[1b] Soon afterwards, though, the Warmaster is able to manipulate the Companions' minds and convinces them that the Emperor must die. With this overwhelming thought, the Companions attack the Emperor and He is forced to kill many of them, before He can gather enough of His psychic might to clear the Custodes' minds of Horus' influence.[1c] The Companions have been ravaged, however, and few are still alive to protect the Emperor, as He ventures further into the Vengeful Spirit.[1d]

Their respite is short lived though, as the Chaos Gods strike and cloud the Companions' minds to the environment around them. This allows the Daemons infesting the warp-tainted Vengeful Spirit to silently attack the Custodes and many are killed this way, before the Emperor notices what is happening. Once more He is forced to use his psychic powers to clear the Companions' minds, but at this point only Nmembo, Caecaltus Dusk, Xadophus, Karedo, Taurid, Ravengast and Zagrus still live.[1e] As they venture further into the Vengueful Spirit they begin to be attacked on all sides and the Emperor extends his psychic might into the surviving Companions. Though their minds are still their own, the Custodes' become an extension of the Emperor's will and their eight bodies are controlled by His mind, as He searches for Warmaster Horus.[2]
