Gythua was one of the Astartes assigned to the Crusader Host when the Horus Heresy broke out. At that point, Rogal Dorn ordered the Host be captured, and Yasu Nagasena led a force of 3,000 men to that aim, resulting in the surviving Astartes' imprisonment in Khangba Marwu.[1b]
He was one of those who escaped from the prison, and had formed a close friendship with Argentus Kiron of the Emperor's Children. A hulking figure even for an Astartes, his fellow warriors had dubbed him "Goliath".[1b]
He was grievously impaled by debris when the cargo aircraft stolen by the Outcast Dead crashed, but did not die until their battle against Babu Dhakal's men, when he intimidated Ghota out of crushing Kiron's skull before dying next to his friend.[1d]
