Ra'stan
Ra'stan was an Epistolary in the Salamanders Legion, during the Horus Heresy.[1]
Biography
Ra'stan took part in the Dropsite Massacre and survived the initial assault. He regrouped with other loyalist survivors at Purgatory, a base constructed out of a crashed drop ship. Here he served as a scout under the command of Ishmal Sulnar. Ra'stan performed several missions in which he aided the Iron Hands in mapping out the surroundings of the base, as well as attempted to bring back other survivors.[2]
During this time, Ra'stan began suffering from hallucinations based in trauma. Ra'stan began to blame many of his own actions on his slain brother Usabius whom he constantly saw and talked with.[2]
Ra'stan was informed by Erasmus Ruuman about the crash site of Vulkan's own drop ship. Ra'stan decided to leave purgatory to find the ship and aid his primarch. He was joined on this mission by Morvax Haukspeer. Ra'stan and Haukspeer found the crashed ship, but were in return found by a Dark Mechanicum construct known as a Blind-Hunter. The Blind-Hunter slew Haukspeer and was about to slay Ra'stan when Ruuman intervened and killed the construct. Ruuman had followed Ra'stan in an attempt to bring him back to Purgatory.[2]
Ra'stan and Ruuman found a survivor of the crash of Vulkan's ship. An Emperor's Children librarian called Lorimarr who had been taken prisoner. Lorimarr revealed the location of a hidden cave to which Vulkan was allegedly taken by the traitors. Ra'stan also discovered the primarch's helmet. Ra'stan and Ruuman followed this lead but encountered an Iron Warriors encampment at the cave entrance.[2]
Ra'stan used the time they had to wait to view the final vidfeet from the primarch's helmet, witnessing Vulkan's final moments at the drop site massacre. After witnessing this, Ruuman noticed the Iron Warriors were in the process of breaking up camp as they were moving away from the blast zone of a radiation bomb. Ra'stan decided to take the chance and attempted to reach the cave. Along the way he was discovered by the Iron Warriors and chased as he entered the cave. Ruuman intervened once more and gave Ra'stan the time he needed to reach the cave.[2]
Ra'stan entered the cave and failed to find Vulkan, instead finding the final flares of a teleportation beacon. He also found a holographic vision of Usabius. Ra'stan realized that he had been hallucinating and that his mind had been broken. Ra'stan decided to release his full psychic powers against the pursuing Iron Warriors and make a last stand in the cave. It's not known if he survived this.[2]
