Shadow-Ghoul
From Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum
Shadows, also known as Shadow-Ghouls or sometimes Shade-Daemons[2], are the varieties of supernatural terrors within the Commorite sub-realm of Aelindrach after the great calamity which befell the realm.[1] They whisper to each other and are often hostile, coiling up legs, ending sight, and suffocating those who step into their ice-cold reach. It is rumoured that somewhere within Aelindrach is a portal to a world in which such creatures reside that can freeze souls by touch.[1]
The shadows have some affinity with the Mandrakes of Aelindrach, which themselves are rumoured to be of Daemonic origin.[1] Harlequins of the Masque of the Shattered Mirage have been seen fighting beside the Shadow-Ghouls.[3]
Varieties described include:
- Shadows which whisper and suffocate.[1]
- Hissing things with eyes of burning silver.[1]
- Veils of ever-thickening shadow.[1]
- Dark tendrils within plunging ice-cold lakes.[1]
- Gangle-limbed half-glimpsed stalker.[1]
- Cold Shadows which flood and drown in Balefire.[1]
- Batlike shadows which descend from etched cliffs.[4b]
- Shade-Daemons.[2]
- Jagged angular darkness which rises and fall in frozen waves.[4b]
- Mandrakes.[1][2]
- Gloomwings.[4a]
